Let's Talk About Race

Let’s Talk About Race (LTAR) is a series of programs that the Red Bank Public Library began over 5 years ago, in an effort to expand dialogue and understanding between people of various races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds that make up the Red Bank area community. In 2018, this program won the NJ State Library's Multicultural Award. Our Let's Talk About Race program has made the Library a leader in diversity education and positioned us in the forefront of this critical conversation.

Please join our Let’s talk About Race program, Wednesday evening at 7 pm on October 28  when Sira Williams and Anne Kelterborn lead us in a conversation, focusing on "How To Raise Children Without Prejudice.”

Sira Williams, mother of three children, is the Red Bank Public Library’s Children’s Librarian. In her role at the Library, she plans, coordinates and conducts most of the children’s programming - her favorite being Story Time. She is also responsible for collection development and maintaining close ties with all of our local schools. The Story Walk at Riverside Gardens is a passion project of Sira’s. She loves the way it connects the library to the greater community while encouraging literacy, activity and fun at the same time. In all that she does, Sira is mindful of the diversity of our patrons. She is determined that the Children’s Room be a warm and welcoming place for all of the kids and families that visit and that our collection reflects the diversity of races, cultures, languages and experiences found in this area.

Recently, in her dedication to supporting the growth and well-being of our youth, Sira has begun  a new library program, Family Story Times on Race & Diversity, which has been very well received by friends of the library near and far.

Anne Kelterborn is a teacher, Red Bank resident, and a mother of two sons .Her 19-year career in education began in Brooklyn and she currently teaches in the Monmouth County Vocational School District. As a teacher--first middle school, and now high school--she believes in encouraging students to express their unique voices so that they can be active participants in their communities. Last year, she facilitated an equity focused professional learning community at her school. She is committed to designing a curriculum that reflects a multitude of perspectives and diverse experiences around the globe.
